The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has scratched and crawled for over a year to get back to the main event of The Grandest Stage of them all, WrestleMania 40. Rhodes, after winning the 2024 Royal Rumble match is set to battle The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title on Night 2 of the spectacle.
However, before that, Cody is set to team up with Seth “Freakin” Rollins to battle Roman Reigns and his iconic cousin, The Final Boss, The Rock on Night 1 of the event with the match outcome having a huge influence on Rhodes’ main event title match on Night 2.
But with the exceptional narrative built over an entire calendar year, the ‘We Want Cody’ movement is in full effect, and the opportunity to rise above the astronomical odds and achieve greatness, all signs are pointing towards Cody Rhodes ending Roman Reigns’ 1300+days reign as champion and become the new holder of the prestigious title.
Considering that to be the scenario and with Cody promising a new story to begin after WrestleMania XL, here are 3 possibilities that could happen under the new era of Cody Rhodes becoming the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion after WrestleMania 40.
1. Cody Rhodes Brings a New Design For WWE Title
The story of Cody Rhodes winning his first World Championship has often been linked to the return of the historic winged-eagle design of the prestigious WWE title. Moreover, during a recent appearance on WWE World, Rhodes even teased bringing a new title design, should he win at WrestleMania 40, to commemorate his the beginning of his championship reign.
“If I do, maybe we will change how that title looks.”

So if Rhodes manages to end the run of Roman Reigns at The Show of Shows, The American Nightmare could introduce a new version of the WWE championship to officially usher into the new era of WWE.
2. Two Regular World Champions in the Renaissance era of WWE
WWE Universe has expressed their frustrations with Roman Reigns’ part-time schedule as champion, depriving opportunities to WWE superstars in the locker room and the fans who tune into their weekly televised programming in hopes of seeing the top leader of the landscape.
While that issue was partially resolved with the creation of its counterpart title on RAW, the World Heavyweight Championship, fans are yet to regularly see two different World Champions on both RAW and SmackDown. Should Cody Rhodes become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania, the WWE Universe across the globe could finally see a fighting champion on SmackDown, a sight that has alluded them for nearly four years.
3. The Era of Opportunities with Cody Rhodes as WWE Champion
As is very much evident, the championship opportunities under the iron fist rule of Roman Reigns have been very limited with him defending the title only a handful of times. However, Cody Rhodes’ monumental victory at WrestleMania 40 could lead to WWE undergoing a makeshift change in the main event championship picture.
Cody Rhodes, who is known to appear and wrestle on almost every WWE show, from live events to televised programming and PLEs, would prove to be a fighting champion, unlike The Head of the Table. The Prodigal Son could revamp the entire championship scene and provide multiple opportunities to upcoming and veteran WWE superstars, proving to a title holder that the fans can be proud of.
