Cody Rhodes shocked the entire world when he jumped ship from the rival promotion AEW to the WWE in 2022, upon his contract expiring. He returned at WrestleMania 38 to ‘Finish The Story’ and win the Undisputed WWE Championship, fulfilling his late father Dusty Rhodes’s lifelong wish.
Rhodes set his eyes on Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Championship, knowing that the dragon would be hard to slay this time. After a failed attempt to capture the title at WrestleMania 39, Rhodes won the Royal Rumble match for the second time in a row to challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40, only to meet another roadblock on his way in the form of The Rock, who aligned himself with The tribal Chief on the road to WrestleMania.
Cody Rhodes outlines making history at The Rock’s fame
Things escalated between The American Nightmare and The Final Boss during the WrestleMania press conference when The Rock slapped The Prodigal Son and joined forces with The Head of the Table.
Cody Rhodes was a guest on ‘The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast‘ where he revealed how he made history at the expense of The Final Boss. Rhodes stated that his merchandise became the first WWE Superstar shirt to feature blood on it due to Rock busting him open while beating him in the rain during the final moments of an edition of RAW during the build-up.
“I gave myself a nice pat on the back for recently going into WrestleMania I was the first WWE shirt that got a little blood on it as well with … they had done the skull with a little cut up top after um rock beat the hell out of me in in the rain.”
The American Nightmare had to deal with several roadblocks on his way to accomplishing his dream, but he managed to overcome Roman Reigns and the Bloodline to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion in the main event of WrestleMania 40.
