Cody Rhodes is credited as one of the biggest stars in the WWE landscape today who transcended the heights of stardom upon his triumph against Roman Reigns and became the new Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania 40.
The American Nightmare had a year-long narrative built with the Tribal Chief that originally began at WrestleMania 39 where Rhodes lost to Reigns. The two would be built on the story with a few run-ins over the course of the calendar before they picked up once again on the road to WrestleMania 40.
Despite multiple obstacles, including Roman’s iconic cousin, The Rock under the armor of his Final Boss character, Rhodes ultimately prevailed at the Showcase of the Immortals and now leads the charge for WWE under the new era of WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
Why did Cody Rhodes call Roman Reigns a Hard Worker despite their storied rivalry?
During a recent interview on the Cheap Heat podcast, Rhodes disclosed the build-up and eventual match with Roman Reigns. Having worked closely with The Tribal Chief, he labeled him a hard worker, despite not being a regular presence on WWE’s televised programming who carried the burden of being the face of the company which is underestimated at times. He noted that Reigns’ talent transcended beyond wrestling into multiple fields and applauded his ability to use his success for the benefit of the product.
“I think he … transcends what we do and I think you will see him pop up in areas that ain’t sports entertainment, that ain’t wrestling and with much success … because of how hard he works. I think that is something probably behind-the-scenes … I am not saying I have seen … I don’t need to see it, I already knew this was the case, but everybody would like to be at a certain point … but workload is widely underestimated sometimes and I feel he was doing all that work.”
While Roman Reigns is currently on hiatus after his loss at WrestleMania, we will have to wait and see if WWE decides to revisit this historic rivalry for one last chapter, now with Cody Rhodes as the champion and Reigns as the dangerous challenger looking for revenge.
