After all the trial and tribulation, defying the odds, and proving himself time and time again, Cody Rhodes ascended to the top of the mountain and claimed his destiny by becoming the face of the biggest wrestling promotion in the world this year.
Cody Rhodes made history when he dethroned Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Champion in the main event of WrestleMania 40 to a massive roar from the live crowd. However, The American Nightmare’s journey led to that moment, full of struggles and pain, including a devastating shoulder injury that Rhodes suffered in his Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins in 2022.
Who was the first person to see Cody Rhodes’ shoulder injury?
The current Undisputed WWE Champion was a special guest on Matt Cardona and Brian Myers’ popular podcast, ‘The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast.’ While discussing his return to the WWE, Cody Rhodes recalled his infamous Hell in a Cell match which he wrestled with a shoulder injury and named the first person who first saw the bruise.
While reminiscing about his Hell in a Cell match at the namesake event in 2022, Cody Rhodes revealed that he tried to stay in his bus the whole day of the event because he knew if somebody saw that brutal bruise, they would immediately call the match off and noted that his match opponent, Seth Rollins was the first person who noticed that bruise on his body.
“I’m really glad I was saying this the other day I’m really glad that nobody asked me to see it on the day of the PLE on the day of Hell in the Cell nobody asked me to see it uh because I feel like had I shown it to the right person they would have said oh no no way absolutely not you’re not fine you’re lying and I just kept that thing covered up and stayed on the bus and because I I think the first person who really did see it was Seth and his reaction is all there for the world to see.”
Despite such terrible injury, The Prodigal Son produced a spectacular bout against Seth Rollins and headlined the show. Cody would be then sidelined for months due to his injury and made his sensational return by winning the Men’s Royal Rumble Match in 2023 and the rest they say is history.
