Cody Rhodes shocked the entire world when he jumped ship from the rival promotion AEW to WWE in 2022, upon his contract expiring. He returned at WrestleMania 38 to ‘Finish The Story’ and win the Undisputed WWE Championship two years later, fulfilling his late father, Dusty Rhodes’s lifelong wish.
Rhodes set his eyes on Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Championship, knowing that the dragon would be hard to slay this time. After a failed attempt to capture the title at WrestleMania 39, Rhodes won the Royal Rumble match for the second time in a row to challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40. However, he met another roadblock on his way in the form of The Rock, who aligned himself with The Tribal Chief on the road to WrestleMania 40.
What reason did Cody Rhodes give for his dislike of The Rock?
Cody Rhodes was a special guest on ‘The Pivot Podcast.‘ While speaking with the podcast hosts, The American Nightmare revealed why he dislikes The Final Boss so much.
The American Nightmare felt it was crazy that The Rock expected he could just get into the middle of a storyline that has been building up for years and take his WrestleMania spot. Rhodes revealed he heard some podcasters say that Rhodes was fine stepping out of his position, which disgusted him. He was in disbelief as to why someone would think he was fine with that, considering it was the biggest show of the year.
“The idea that you could just come back in the midst of a story that was taking place and just because you’re the rock you can step in into the starting lineup and take WrestleMania for yourself and a lot of people say he’s the rock he can do whatever he wants I even saw this really fun podcast with two uh wrestling heads just talking back and forth then they had said they were like I’m sure Cody’s fine stepping as side um for for Wrestlemania and then doing it later in the year and in my mind I’m thinking that’s insane that’s the Super Bowl for what we do to get to the Sunday the last day of WrestleMania the last match is our literal Super Bowl and it used to be financially that was the to get to that match was the big money match when the like the chit pay was all different at that point the idea that somebody thought I would just be cool with it is they don’t know me that that’s nonsense I’ve worked my whole life for this Rock should know I wouldn’t be cool with it and I think maybe that’s an understanding.”
The Rock was a major roadblock on Cody Rhodes’ journey to the Undisputed WWE Championship. But the fans’ support and his willingness to get his moment was what made that incredible moment happen in the main event of WrestleMania 40. However, Cody is set to face another Bloodline member, Solo Sikoa for the Undisputed WWE Title at their upcoming PLE, WWE SummerSlam 2024, continuing his rivalry with the family.
