Cody Rhodes has surpassed all expectations and is en route to becoming one of the most legendary WWE superstars of all time. The American Nightmare sits at the pinnacle of the wrestling industry and his record-breaking merchandise sales, ticket sales, and undeniable connection with the WWE Universe prove that.
Furthermore, Cody Rhodes made history on April 7th, 2024 when he defeated The Head of the Table, Roman Reigns, and ended his historic reign of terror to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion at the Grandest Stage of them all, WrestleMania. However, it was due to his back-to-back win in the Royal Rumble that granted him a second chance for which Cody cited an inspiration.
Cody Rhodes credits WWE Hall of Famer for his back-to-back major triumphs
The WWE Universe was left stunned when Roman Reigns pinned Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39 and retained his Undisputed WWE Championship at SoFI Stadium. Ever since then, it was only about getting back another opportunity to win the championship for The American Nightmare and a certain WWE Hall of Famer helped him to claim those triumphs.
The new Undisputed WWE Champion joined Ariel Helwani on his podcast, ‘The MMA Hour’, and revealed that he drew inspiration from the WWE Hall of Hamer, Stone Cold Steve Austin as he was the last WWE superstar to win the Royal Rumble match back-to-back, with Rhodes also succeeding in the same after his triumph in the 2023 and 2024 Royal Rumble matches.
“It very much was a year filled with proving him wrong and the cherry on top of it all was being the first guy since Stone Cold Steve Austin who I have so much respect for Stone Cold Steve Austin just the man right a lot of guys have stone cold on their Mount Rushmore rightfully so to be the first guy to go back to back at a Royal Rumble and do that oh man that that to me was the cherry on top.”
Upon winning the Royal Rumble match in 2024, Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns again this year for the Undisputed WWE Championship and despite multiple obstacles in his way, The American Nightmare still fulfilled his destiny and won the Undisputed WWE Championship to have a perfect storybook ending to his story and beginning a new one in the process.
