The Ring General, Gunther, walked into WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024 with a tall task ahead. He was scheduled to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against heated rivals Finn Balor and Damian Priest. Despite the odds stacked against him, Gunther managed to put down both former Judgment Day cohorts and retain his World title.
Following the WWE Survivor Series PLE, where Gunther retained his title over Damian Priest with Finn Balor’s interference, Balor believed that he was entitled to a championship match. Initially, it was supposed to be a singles match between Finn Balor and Gunther for the title.
However, on the go-home edition of RAW for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024, Balor and his Judgment Day leading an attack on Gunther and Priest led to Adam Pearce changing the match and making it a triple threat match involving Damian Priest.
Gunther reigned supreme over two former World Champions at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024
Gunther walked into the match without his ally, Ludwig Kaiser, to prove his supremacy as a top title holder who could hold on his own. Damian Priest had a dual mission of regaining the World Heavyweight Championship and decimating his nemesis, Finn Balor, who had cost him the title on multiple occasions. Balor, on the other hand, was also laser-focused, but many had expected him to have his Judgment Day faction lurking in the shadows.
The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the sight of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024, witnessed a highly captivating triple threat match. Each superstar brought their unique style and offensive in the high-stakes World Championship match. Gunther‘s hard-hitting moves and submissions were on full display, Priest brought his strength and quickness to the bout, and Balor displayed his amazing agility, speed and high-flying moves, with the fans erupting with a ‘This is Awesome’ chant.
As the triple threat match came close to its conclusion, Priest took out Gunther with a South of Heaven chokeslam. This led to Finn Balor trying to execute the Coupe De Grace on Priest, only for Gunther to intercept and then Gunther being saved from a near fall by Damian Priest. The ending saw Gunther take out Priest on the outside area and rush inside the ring to take down Finn Balor with a thunderous Powerbomb, pinning his shoulders to the mat to win the match and retain his World Heavyweight Championship.
