The WWE Royal Rumble 2025 edition will be the final time John Cena competes at the historic event. The Cenation Leader has embarked on his farewell tour, which will culminate in the end of his illustrious WWE career in December 2025. His first stop will be the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, the sight of the Royal Rumble 2025 event, which will be the start of the road to WrestleMania 41.
John Cena is set to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. He will be joined by the likes of current top stars such as Roman Reigns, CM Punk and Seth Rollins. However, the question pertaining to Cena’s involvement is whether Cena can break an almost 25-year-old standing record in the history of the Royal Rumble event.
Can John Cena break a 25-year-old record at the WWE Royal Rumble 2025 event?
WWE Universe has been enthralled about the upcoming Royal Rumble 2025 event ever since John Cena declared himself for the Men’s Rumble match at the debut episode of RAW on Netflix. The fans have been heavily supporting Cena as he walks into the final Rumble match of his life in hopes of securing a chance to win his 17th World Championship at WrestleMania.
However, John Cena also has a chance to create history at the WWE Royal Rumble 2025 event. As it is known, The Cenation Leader is a former two-time Royal Rumble winner, having won the 30-man over-the-top-rope-melee back in 2018 from the number 30 spot and then again in 2013 from the number 19. Cena’s past victories put him in the spot to create history in his last appearance at the event.
IF @JohnCena wins the 2025 #RoyalRumble, he TIES Stone Cold with 3. He could then BREAK the World Title record at WM by winning a 17th, which would also be his 9th World Title match at a WM, TYING the record with Triple H.

However, it might not be breaking an almost 25-year-old record, but tying with it. Should John Cena emerge victorious in the Men’s Rumble match at the WWE Royal Rumble 2025 event, then he would tie with Stone Cold Steve Austin for most Rumble wins in history. Austin won his third rumble match bac in 2001 and has been the record holder since. Moreover, looking at the current unwavering support for the 16-time WWE Champion, his winning his third rumble seems a real possibility.
With John Cena having the opportunity to begin his farewell tour in historic fashion, it will be interesting to see if he can tie in with Steve Austin and leave a huge impact in his last time as an in-ring competitor at the Royal Rumble event.
