The Evolution of Uncle Howdy’s Character: From Debut to Present

uncle howdy

Uncle Howdy and Wyatt Sicks sent the entire WWE Universe into a frenzy when the wicked stable made their much-awaited debut on the  WWE television programming on the June 17th, 2024, edition of Monday Night RAW and made a major statement on their first night.

After putting several WWE Superstars like Chad Gable on notice, Uncle Howdy and Wyatt Sicks made some appearances on the following editions of Monday Night RAW. The mysterious lady, reported to be Nikki Cross, was seen passing VHS tapes to Michael Cole, which contained interactions between Bo Dallas and his alter ego, Uncle Howdy.

As we all know, Bo Dallas is donning Uncle Howdy’s character and has already curated a pretty successful career for himself in the past. Bo Dallas is one of the most versatile WWE Superstars of this generation who has easily nailed several characters in the past. Let us take a look at the evolution of Uncle Howdy’s character from debut to the present.

1. The Debut

Bo Dallas debuted in NXT and immediately shifted his focus to the NXT Championship. After defeating Big E for the championship and reigning as the champ for over 280 days, Bo Dallas made his highly anticipated main roster debut in 2014.

Bo Dallas and the creative team decided to go with the ‘Bo-lieve’ Character, which was centred around an overly optimistic and positive persona who aimed to encourage the WWE Universe to be themselves just like he did. The gimmick would see Bo wearing white gear, giving motivational speeches to the WWE fans, and chasing the championships.

2. The ‘B-Team’

After running with the ‘Bo-lieve’ character for a few years, WWE attempted to repackage Bo Dallas’s character since his previous gimmick failed to gain much traction. After several attempts to put him on tag teams with different partners, WWE would put him on a tag team with Curtis Axel, the ‘B-Team’.

The B-Team was put together with WWE’s must-see Superstar, The Miz, which helped push the team of Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas to the next level. Bo and Curtis would win the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships in the process, making it a major highlight of their careers, respectively, but it did not give Bo much traction as a standout talent.

3. Association with Bray Wyatt

The most confusing part of Bo Dallas’s WWE stint was the missed opportunity to capitalize on his potential by aligning him with his real-life brother Bray Wyatt. After several failed repackages, WWE would finally come around and put Bo Dallas along with one of the most creative minds the WWE Universe has ever seen, along with his own brother, the late Bray Wyatt.

Bray Wyatt returned to the WWE at the WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Premium Live Event, sending chills to the WWE Universe. Wyatt made his major return with a mysterious force behind him who would be introduced to the WWE Universe as ‘Uncle Howdy’, a character that Bo Dallas donned.

4. Uncle Howdy and Wyatt Sicks

Unfortunately, Bray Wyatt passed away last year due to severe health complications, leaving his family and the WWE Universe numbed. However, Bo Dallas and WWE decided to keep his spirit alive by bringing the vision that he had seen for Uncle Howdy to reality on WWE television.

After WrestleMania 40, a series of glitches and QR codes took over WWE programming on its weekly shows, interrupting the programming, which dropped cryptic hints about Uncle Howdy’s return. On the June 17th, 2024, edition of Monday Night RAW, Uncle Howdy returned to the company along with his demented faction, putting the entire WWE roster on notice and marking a new beginning in Bo Dallas’ career.
