Kenny Omega is often regarded as one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. When it comes to in-ring prowess, Omega has solidified himself as a legitimate performer in the eyes of professional wrestling fans. He is known to be in conversation with the likes of Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and AJ Styles.
After establishing himself as a legend with his work in New Japan Professional Wrestling (NJPW), Omega signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and since then has been performing there and has also won the AEW World Championship once. However, for more than a year now, Kenny Omega has been out of action due to diverticulitis. But The Cleaner is set to return to in-ring action next year in Japan which would also mean that he would return to AEW as well. Here are the top four Kenny Omega AEW return matches that can happen upon his resurgence:
1. Kazuchika Okada
Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada have a storied history together. Their rivalry dates back to their run in New Japan, and since then, they have been synonymous with each other. Now, with both performers in AEW, a match between the two will be a blockbuster showdown that can happen any time after Omega’s return to the company.
Furthermore, when Kenny Omega returned to AEW last May to address his health to the AEW fans, Okada attacked Omega and took him out, planting the seeds for a battle between the two after Kenny Omega’s return in 2024.
2. Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega are two of the most decorated professional wrestlers ever. Kenny Omega has been with AEW since its inception. Now with Ospreay’s arrival in the company, it is just a matter of time before we see two of the greatest to ever step inside the ring together one-on-one again since their last match in 2023.
Kenny Omega’s last AEW match came on December 5, 2023, when he faced Ethan Page in a one-on-one match that was heavily appreciated by the AEW fans. After that match, Ospreay would go on for his surgery, due to which Ospreay and Omega never crossed paths with each other after their last encounter. Once Kenny Omega AEW return happens, this showdown will be the one to look out for.
3. Adam Cole
After becoming universally popular with his extraordinary run in NXT, where he went on to win several championships, Adam Cole chose to sign with AEW instead of debuting on the WWE main roster. Since then, Cole has been one of the key figures on AEW television programming, and a match with Kenny Omega still remains a dream match for fans.
Amidst injuries that both of these talented performers had to face recently in their respective careers, they did not get to cross paths with each other. But as Adam Cole has returned at WrestleDream PPV, where he confronted MJF in October 2024, and Kenny Omega’s AEW return is expected to be on the cards, a dream match between the two is a real possibility.
4. Claudio Castagnoli
Claudio Catagnoli, popularly known as WWE’s Cesaro, is one of the most technically sound and extremely proficient in-ring performers that wrestling fans have ever witnessed. After his contract with WWE had expired, Claudio chose to make his highly anticipated AEW debut and became one of the biggest stars on the roster.
Claudio and Omega have both cited their desire to face each other on several occasions in the past, and fans have always wanted to see a match between them. With both performers working in the same promotion now, a match between the two is a real possibility upon Kenny Omega AEW’s return in the future.
