WWE is known to feature some of the most intriguing and compelling storylines to keep the audience interested in its television product. However, the one storyline that has kept the WWE Universe thoroughly invested for months has been the father-son feud between Dominik Mysterio and his legendary father, Rey Mysterio.
The heated rivalry began back at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022 when Dominik turned on his father and joined the ranks of the evil faction, The Judgment Day. Moreover, his chemistry with his ‘Mami’ Rhea Ripley has also been widely appreciated, who went to all lengths to corrupt the young competitor and put his family through a series of torture and torment.
But in the end, the WWE Universe is well aware that it is a storyline presented by the company between WWE Superstars. However, Dominik Mysterio has pulled all stops to keep the authenticity of his character in front and behind the camera as well, especially during the entire WrestleMania weekend, which was a big celebration for his entire family. So let’s dive deep and explore the timeline of Dominik Mysterio not breaking character throughout the final stages leading to the first-ever bout between the father and son.
Dominik Mysterio Showed No Remorse Towards The Entire Mysterio Family During The Build-Up
In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 39, WWE announced that Rey Mysterio would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023, being the headliner inductee. It was a big celebration moment for the entire Mysterio family. But Dominik chose to show no remorse towards his father at his biggest accomplishment and continued to push his buttons each and every week before The Show of Shows.
Furthermore, after Rey constantly declined to face Dominik for a mega showdown at WrestleMania 39, he pulled off the ultimate act of disgrace and berated his own mother on an episode of SmackDown. That was the last straw that led to Rey Mysterio striking down his own son and accepting his challenge for the Showcase of the Immortals.
Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley Escalated The Feud Throughout The WrestleMania Festivities
The WrestleMania weekend was the ultimate test for Dominik Mysterio to cement himself as a top heel, amidst the preparations of the world to see his father, Rey Mysterio taking his place in the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame. The festivities began with Dom Dom and his Mami, Rhea Ripley destroying Rey’s merchandise and memorabilia at the WrestleMania Axxess event, while constantly berating his father to attract more heat from the fans in attendance and watching on social media.
Dominik and Rhea were then spotted together alongside another Judgment Day member Damien Priest at the Hall of Fame ceremony together. The night that was dedicated to celebrating Legends including Rey Mysterio’s illustrious career was the most difficult scenario to hold back his real-life applause and appreciation and maintain his heel persona who had no respect for his father.
When Rey Mysterio made his grand entrance into the arena after his good friend Konan gave an emotional speech encircling their time together and his career, the masked luchador was given a standing ovation from everyone in attendance, except Dominik and other members of the Judgment Day. Moreover, as Rey began to deliver his Hall of Fame speech, the young Mysterio showed the ultimate act of disrespect by getting up and walking out amidst the ceremony, attracting loud jeers and boos from the fans and staying firmly true to his character.
The Mega Father-Son Clash Saw Dominik Mysterio Berating The Entire Family In Hollywood
The Grandest Stage of them All would set to see Dominik and Rey Mysterio collide after one of the most intense and heated feuds going on for a long time. Dominik entered with a bunch of cops, recreating his Prison Dom time and donning one of Rey’s iconic masks, before ultimately tossing it showing major disrespect towards his family lineage.
Furthermore, the berated son of Rey Mysterio did not hesitate to pull any punches and wanted to emerge victorious over his legendary father on the biggest stage in entertainment. Even more, an unplanned spot also saw Dom throwing a drink in his real-life sister, Aaliyah Mysterio’s face, receiving a shower of heat and loud jeers.
He resorted to every dirty tactic in the book to secure the win. However, with a little assistance from Puerto Rican music sensation, Bad Bunny, Rey Mysterio was able to put down his son for the three count and secure the win for himself.
Therefore, Dominik Mysterio has shown signs of the legendary Undertaker throughout his entire feud with Rey Mysterio. Much like The Phenom maintained his character throughout the longevity of his career and stayed true to his character, both on and off screen, Dom Dom has shown similar belief in his work as a major heel on the WWE roster, which was very much evident during the build-up towards his match with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 39.
Do you agree with Dominik Mysterio staying true to his character? Will he become the biggest heel of the modern era? Sound off in the comments!
