Cody Rhodes shares wild story of fan handcuffed backstage at 1996 WCW Event

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on his podcast, ‘The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani’, The American Nightmare talked about the feuds with The Rock and Roman Reigns, his WrestleMania 40 matches, and his goal post winning the Undisputed WWE Championship.

One of the incidents that Rhodes recalled was a wild story of a fan backstage at a 1996 WCW Event. Cody Rhodes stated that he was present at The Bash at the Beach 1997 and was watching the event when a kid sitting behind him started crying while his father was trying to calm him down. When Cody went backstage, he saw the man handcuffed there who had thrown something at him and his relative, Jean.

“I will never forget it because when it happened little kid behind me with his dad started crying and the dad was trying to explain to him like Hey no no no no it’s he was really trying to it’s going to be okay and it was just such a unique feeling in that building but anyways, I went to back backstage and he’s yelling at the Nasty Boys as he walked to his locker room it just seems like pure chaos and me and my sister were standing next to this just random man and then we looked and he was handcuffed to the door it was one of the guys who had thrown something at me and Jean yeah so we had just been sitting there talking to this guy who was getting ready to get like I don’t know beat up by the boys or was going to smack him around.”

While Cody Rhodes escaped the wild incident unscratched, years later, he has established himself as one of the most popular WWE Superstars of all time. The American Nightmare is on the run of a lifetime as not only he has “Finished his Story” by winning the Undisputed WWE Championship but has also started a new era in the WWE.
