Citing his remarkable chase for the World title, undeniable connection with the fans, and unmatched aura, Rhodes is leaving an indelible mark on the WWE Universe.

The American Nightmare has been in this business for almost two decades now. But Cody Rhodes’ first innings in WWE turned out to be a failure and he was released in 2016. After leaving WWE, The Prodigal Son went on to rediscover himself and joined All Elite Wrestling where he started finding his footing and returned to the WWE in 2022 for the biggest run of his career to ‘Finish his Story’.

Cody Rhodes’ Candid Thoughts on Dusty Rhodes’ Championship Struggles

Cody’s father, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes was one of the most respected veterans in the wrestling business, and many WWE superstars of today, credit him for their success in the WWE including those who went on to become World Champions. However, Dusty himself never got to hold the WWE World Championship. This led to his son, Cody Rhodes making his goal to win the WWE Championship in honor of his legendary father.

The current Undisputed WWE Champion was a guest on ‘The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani’. During the conversation, Cody Rhodes answered about if his father struggled with the idea of being a World Champion. Rhodes stated that he did not recall Dusty Rhodes telling him he was bothered about it. However, Cody did mention that his father used to talk about three particular matches that he had with Superstar Billy Graham in Madison Square Garden.

“You remember your dad ever telling you how much it bothered him that he was never WWF Champion so what I remember straight honest honesty I never remember him telling me he was bothered. I just remember how much he talked about those three matches and, those were only three matches. He wrestled the Nature Boy Ric Flair a thousand times, he wrestled Harley Race probably 500 times, but those three matches with the Superstar at The Garden, I think the one thing that he felt maybe was above his out of his orbit.”

Fast forward to now, Cody Rhodes fulfilled his destiny and won the Undisputed WWE Championship from Roman Reigns who had a vice grip on that title for over 4 years in the main event of WrestleMania 40. Rhodes claimed his dream and won a WWE title that his father had never held, dedicating his victory to him and the fans who helped him get his rightful opportunity at The Showcase of the Immortals.
